Premature E-Santazation

Is it just me or is everyone WAY out of control with this Christmas come early crap?

I was baffled and laughed aloud when just BEFORE Halloween, I found 2-3 full isles of Christmas ornaments, stockings, and what-not all ready for sale at Target. I mean, hello? It was not even November yet! (O.K., yeeeesssss, I will admit that I did buy a tin of three coveted Star Wars ornaments for my son on this trip, but it had BobaFett! How could I turn away from the Boba, I ask you!)

And, then I thought it was a little crazy when the weekend before Thanksgiving I went fun shopping with a gal-pal in Austin and the stores were packed like it was the week before Xmas. But, hey, I rationalized it saying people must be traveling for Turkey day, yadda, yadda, yadda.

But, people, I got a Christmas Card on November 28th this year! I had two by December 1st. WHAT IS GOING ON? Why are we suddenly "buying in" (literally) to marketers and celebrating so early this year? My husband finished our outdoor holiday lights tonight. Most everyone on our street is already done with theirs.

I was going to brag about having my tree done so early and post pictures up here of it in all its majesty--just because I had it done several days after Thanksgiving. But, I'm thinking that's not so early anymore. Is it possible that people decided to just take the Halloween candy and go ahead and stuff it in the stockings straight-away or something? First Nick and Jessica finally really split and now this? (wink) Have we completely lost our minds? Somebody make it stop already!!!

I work in retail and the Boss Lady and I have had this ongoing resistance to starting Christmas so early every year. This year, we just caved completely and started dragging things up from the basement in October. The thing is if all the big chains are doing it, we can't afford NOT to do it. At home, though, I've gone from doing the tree the day after Thanksgiving to waiting until a week before Christmas, just out of spite or something.

Pretty soon we'll be Christmas shopping in March, I'm sure. Why don't we just keep the trees up and decorated year-round?? I know, this whole commercialization thing has gotten out of hand. I've bought into it, too, sadly. Last night my brother called me to get some Christmas ideas for the family and I said, "What?! You're just beginning your shopping now??" It's only Dec. 6 and I'm thinking he's a slacker. Yes, I've succumbed to the madness too, sadly.

I confess. I finished my shopping at least a week ago, BUT I do it early because 1) I need to take advantage of the sales with 4 kids, and 2) I can't stand the malls/stores/lines/roads when they get jam packed with the people who shop later. However, while our outside lights are up (but not turned on yet), we do not have our tree up. Maybe this weekend...

We don't have our tree up, we don't have decorations out. And I don't care. Not one bit.
Next weekend we might consider it. I would be happy to put the shit up December 24th and take it down on the 26th. It's too much and it starts earlier and earlier every year!

*Hangs head in shame* You know, I actually love Christmas with an almost insane zeal, and I look forward to the decorations coming out early! I sort of feel as though Halloween and Thanksgiving are just stumbling blocks on the way to my birthday and THE HOLIDAY, lol!

Ah well, I've finished my Christmas shopping, but I did about half of it online so I had to make sure it was delivered in time for me to go home. And I've yet to even BEGIN working on Christmas cards!

If it makes you feel better, I've not bought a single gift, nor sent a card (hell, my cards aren't made yet!) and I only have 19 days left...oh boy!

PS - michele sent me.

You CAN'T pass up Boba!! I wouldn't have either, but I totally agree with the whole Christmas out of control thing.

I think the season officially starts the day after Thanksgiving. And I admit I'm a little hurt that I've only gotten three Christmas cards so far this year. Last year, we had like 50. WTF, people?!
