MomCat Reviews: iCarly Season 1, Volume 1 DVD
If you have kids in the 8- to 12-year-old range, chances are you're well-versed in the sitcom ways of Zack and Cody, Hannah Montana, or The Wizards of Waverly Place. Thankfully, I have a son who is nine and so I've missed the whole Hannah Montana craze entirely. But, Zack and Cody graces our TV several times a week and I've even managed to giggle a few times at it.
My son recently discovered a new show of which all the 3rd grade at his school is a-buzz. iCarly follows main character Carly and her friends through life in middle school with a high-tech twist. When Carly's webcast show is broadcast live on the Internet and becomes a huge success, she and her friends decide to produce the show daily which puts them in many interesting situations.
The show is far from realistic. Carly's parents are conveniently "overseas" which leaves she and her brother and friends to run the show all the while navigating through the rough terrain that is the 8th grade. But, it is cute and somewhat entertaining even for the parents. You can check out the show's website here, which includes videos of episodes, a blog, and much more.
And, I do have to say the whole website aspect has completely spawned my son's imagination. He's wanted his own website and has worked on one on his computer for quite awhile now before even seeing this show. Now, he's working on it full force. Will he create his own webcast? Will his website ever go live or just stay a work-in-progress on his computer? Only time will tell!
But, for now, he'll enjoy living vicariosly through Carly while watching iCarly Season 1 Volume 1, which debuted on DVD on September 23rd from Nickelodeon Home Entertainment. And, if you've got a preteen who might enjoy it too, email me here first and maybe you'll win a copy too!
