Taking that first step...

I took a big step today, towards reaching my long-term goals of better health. My diabetes doctor is holding a weight loss program for the next six months. For a small deposit fee, I will join a group with the goal of losing at least 10 percent of our body weight in 6 months. Before we even begin, I will consult with a dietitian, have my resting metabolic rate measured, have a full body scan of all major arteries, and have a sonogram done of my heart. In addition, I will go twice weekly to meet with various specialists, ranging from dietitians, doctors, cooking instructors, and so forth. Once I week I will do a group physical training class with others in the program. If at the end of six months, I've reached my 10 percent goal I will get my deposit back AND $500 big ones!

If I have not reached my goal, I will still get my deposit back.

So, this is a first for me. Being paid to do what I know I need to do anyway--learn the right way to eat and balance my food throughout the day for optimal health. And, how do I feel about this?


Of course, the program doesn't start until mid-November, but at least that is just in time for Thanksgiving (gobble, gobble) and the Xmas holiday (BURP!) Wish me luck! I hope to post updates on this once I start and also give some tips along the way that I learn. You know, share the knowledge...
